Guys!! I couldn’t believe that this was happening! Pottery Barn invited me to come and style a space in one of their stores! I mean, PO-TTER-Y BARN. I have loved them since we were first married. So after about .000000001 seconds I responded with a very cool, very collected…..YES!!!!!!
They brought us in as part of their Fall store refresh to style the space front and center, and we had the best time. But here’s what I really want you to take home from it, because every bit of this works in your house too.
Start with the pieces that carry you all year. A pair of woven urns says “this home is warm and collected” in January just as loudly as it does in October. A white marble lamp is quiet and stunning and lets everything around it shine. A burl wood box with that gorgeous grain? It hides your remotes and your clutter and still manages to look like a treasure sitting there.
Then comes the Fall layer, and these are so much fun! A glass pumpkin candle that brings in the warm Fall smell. A brass leaf candle holder that catches the light on a dark afternoon. A faux fur throw over the arm of the sofa that says “pull me down, get comfortable, stay a while.” A soft suede pillow you’ll reach for without even thinking about it.
And don’t forget the little characters! Those brass dogs…..these are SOOO much fun! A tiny brass clock that is timeless and gives a sense of history to the room. Then the light. Always, always add the light. Candles going by late afternoon, lamps on…..it’s absolute perfection. This is what makes a space — a store or your own living room — feel like somewhere you want to sit down and stay.
So here’s my one takeaway for you. Buy the foundational pieces that work for every season, then add beautiful seasonal pieces to create a space that celebrates the warmth and coziness of Fall.
