Musings on Being Home

Happy Friday!! What an exciting week we’ve had! We’ve been decorating like crazy and loving every minute. For me, this year was all about coming home. I know that must sound a little crazy since we’ve been in the US for 10 years, but we had formed the habit of always moving on to the next thing, and kind of assumed we’d do the same here in Atlanta. We called our house the re-starter home and I think it kept us from truly settling. There’s a lot of reasons why so many of us never truly settle down. Sometimes it sounds too permanent and we are afraid to commit, sometimes we get in the mode of scaling up the ladder of life and real estate, and sometimes we just never quite commit to where we are for no reason other than truly never giving it much thought.
We’ve spent the last few months really deciding that for us, there truly is no place like home, and for us, that is Atlanta. We searched the planet for somewhere else that was waiting for us, when all along we were home. Life is funny like that isn’t it? So this year I wanted to shift the focus and mood to creating a home that would celebrate where we are, where the pine trees grow like skyscrapers, and the lakes are brimming with bass, and forest animals roam the neighborhood (we just listened to coyotes howling and a owl hooting loudly in response.) Farms fill the scenery in every direction. The mountains are always just in the distance view and the sun is almost always shining. I’m home. I love it here so much and I love how our home seems to live in peace with where it is. The branches and the pinecones and the bookcases brimming with leather books all feel so right. I’m so glad I decided to keep believing in magic… because we see it all around us and I think a bit lives in us, too.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, perhaps even with a little decorating! Sending you warm hugs and a kiss for each cheek! xxV
