Whether you’re jetting off to some distant location or taking a staycation there are some easy ways to bring the adventure home with you. One of my favorite ways is with a candle. Not only do they add ambience and wonderful low light to a room but through smell they can transport you to anywhere on the planet. Here are seven of my favorites:
CANDLEFISH #8
Candlefish makes all of their candles in Charleston, SC and this one is their signature scent for the city. The main notes in this candle are gardenia and musk and they do a remarkable job of capturing the true essence of this city. This candle is a 9 oz. soy candle that is hand poured in Charleston.

Palo Santo
This Palo Santo candle from Stems & Co reminds us so much of our recent trip to Mexico. At the resort, the restaurants and the shops the smell of Palo Santo filled the air. This 12 oz. soy candle features the smell of the sacred Palo Santo trees of Central and South America mixed with Sandalwood, She, Coconut and almond.

Spirituelle
This is one of our all time favorite scents. We lived for over three years in Morocco and this candle instantly transports us back to the old medinas. We have this fragrance in both the lava rocks and the candle and they both are truly amazing. The primary note is a crisp, cold mint and is supported by both floral and wood notes as well. If you want to be transported to a different world, this candle is exactly what you’re looking for.
Hav “Sea” Candle
We fell in love with this candle this summer when we visited Copenhagen, Denmark. We lived there for six years and truly love this city. The Skandinavisk brand makes a variety of candles, and truthfully….they’re all amazing. This one is our favorite because it truly reminds us of the sea, a different scent than the ocean. Then primary notes are salt spray, sea kelp, hawthorn and beach rose.

Salted Sea
Are you missing those lazy days at the beach? This salted sea candle is the perfect reminder of those relaxing days on the beach. The primary notes are lemon, coconut and blossoming tiara. Grab yourself a cocktail, turn on some summer tunes and light this candle and I swear you can feel the warm sun on your skin!

Linen Oakmoss
This candle from Anthropologie instantly transports me to a Southern coastal setting. The clean linen notes enhance the softness of fresh rose and golden ylang over dew-covered oakmoss, patchouli, and amber. It’s the perfect combination of light and dark notes which truly represents summer in the south. We also have to mention the beautiful woven metallic vessel, wow!
Nightsouk
Mysterious, ancient and exciting….this candle smells like those three words. The Souk is a traditional marketplace in Moroccan cities filled with leather goods, herbalists, tanners, spice sellers and metal workers. The candle from Mad et Len perfectly captures the smell of the souk, and it’s truly enchanting. The primary notes are vanilla, incense and patchouli.
