Guys, we are so obsessed with creating a space this Fall that is cozy and has all the warmth and love and comfort that our homes are oozing this time of year (and if there are not… I’ve got a few little things you can add that will get you there!)
Here’s the thing I’ve learned. That cozy, warm, inviting feeling that we are all trying to create, never comes from one big statement piece alone (although a large sectional ready to jump into does help!) . But getting that cozy feeling goes beyond just one thing, doesn’t it? It comes from… layering!
There’s a little bit of an art to layering, but it’s easier than you think!
Start with the big pieces. Consider a plaid armchair that says, “sink in and get cozy!” A reclaimed wood coffee table with the most beautiful grain says, “come! Relax! Put your feet up!”. A wood chest with a marble top and brass ring pulls feels classic without being stuffy.
What about a plush sofa that’s perfect for cozy days, snuggly nights, and afternoon naps? We love a sofa that begs you to stay all day long!
Then come the little details, which are actually the secret sauce to pulling it all together!
A big seagrass basket for blankets not only looks beautiful and warm just sitting there, it brings life and coziness to the way you live in your room! A little tweed ottoman for your feet also adds extra seating (because we love to share our home with our family and friends) and it also adds a layer of texture and interest.
A woven twig pumpkin isn’t just cute to look at (even though eeeekkk!! It really is cute!) but it signals that a new season is here and adds texture, too! Pale hydrangea? Not just a vase filler. They are the magic maker! They bring something delicate and light and airy to any space! They are truly transformative!
Let’s chat about the Fluted glass hurricanes and an amber hued candle that’s just as pretty unlit as it is lit. They look beautiful and add a bit of glamour but, boy oh boy, when they are lit? Wow. Your room springs to life. It’s like entering a fantasy world that feels romantic and soft and dreamy! Cue the jazz music!
Don’t forget the lighting. It’s almost more important than anything else in the room. Lighting creates ambiance and mood and magic. Go for low lights on tables, floor lamps for layers of warmth and chandeliers for a touch of elegance!
Finally, don’t forget the soul of your room- those little things that greet you and feel like home- your home! Picture frames with your memories, perhaps a brass dog book end, linen book boxes full of your extra pictures, and books that feel like friends.
I’ve never been so excited for a Fall season in my life. It all feels so magical right now and I’m crediting the layers we’ve added this season to our home! I encourage you to do the same to yours! Make this your coziest season yet!
