I am SO looking forward to Christmas this year. Now, I know it’s still very much fall, and no, we are not pulling out the trees yet (although Jack really, REALLY wants to). But I’ve started planning, and for me it all begins with one big question…
What do I want Christmas to feel like?
This year I”m all about the feeling. The kind of home I want my family walking into, gathering in, and never wanting to leave.
So I made two boards. Same heart, two very different feelings.
The first one is warm and golden. Think cognac velvet bows, mercury glass ornaments catching the twinkle lights, and a faux fur tree skirt you just want to sink your hands into. Leather swivel chairs pulled up close to the fire, a soft throw tossed over the arm, rustic brass bells, and the sweetest little reindeer. This is the quiet Christmas. Candles lit, coffee refilled, nowhere to be. Everyone in pajamas until noon and nobody apologizing for it.
The second one is pure classic heritage. Red tartan stockings with fur cuffs hung on brass holders, velvet bows on every ornament, a deep green knit blanket, and those little brass lamps with pleated green shades (I mean, come ON). A tufted leather wingback in the corner and a horse painting in an old gold frame. This is the Christmas you remember from when you were little, the one that feels like it’s been happening in that house for a hundred years. Full and joyful and a little bit nostalgic in the very best way.
And you know what? They share the things that matter most. A beautiful tree glowing in the evening. Garland draped across the mantel. A spot by the fire that pulls everyone in. Leather that’s been sat in, wrapped in, and loved.
That’s the whole point, isn’t it? The decor is just the backdrop. The real magic is who’s sitting in those chairs.
So let me ask you… what do YOU want Christmas to feel like this year? Golden and cozy or classic and storybook? Tell me in the comments, I want to know!
