We talk a lot about interior design and how painting, decorating and styling can change the look and feel of your home. We love these conversations and honestly, we geek out on them all day long but it’s not the only way to change a room. People ask us all the time “Does your home really look like this or is it just for Youtube?” The truth is, it does look like this most of the time.
In case you’re new to the House of Valentina, we do have three kids, a dog and 1-2 of our kids always has a friend over for dinner, game night, movie night or just to hang out. Our house gets lived in, and just like you, we have to work to keep it clean. We have a series of nightly and weekly rituals that keeps maintaining our home manageable and best of all, every morning we wake up to a clean, fresh home.
Use Baskets to Organize & Hide
We love to hide things in plain sight, and baskets are perfect for this. Some stuff like games and nerf guns get returned to the bedroom after use but most stuff makes its way to a nearby basket. We have them for blankets, toys, magazines and Louis even has one for his toys. Every night we clear out the space and make sure everything finds its way to the proper basket.
Wipe Down and Freshen Up
Every night after dinner we start the cleaning process in the kitchen. Not only does every dish get loaded into the dishwasher but we also wipe down the countertops. It’s crazy how messy and sticky they can get with a day of use. We have a handful of favorite cleaning sprays that we use to wipe down the dining table, the coffee table (which Landon is notorious for snacking at) and any other nearby surface that needs a little freshening up.
Freshen up the Greenery
One of the biggest advantages to trimming from our own garden is that we have a near limitless supply of greenery. Every few days we change out anything that is drying out, clean up the old leaves and replace with fresh greenery. Besides the one time investment in a vase and a pair of trimmers this tip is free. There’s nothing like waking up to a room with fresh greenery!
Light up the Room
There’s nothing quite as cozy as a room lit by candlelight. We love lighting a scented candle because it not only provides ambient light but it also helps to refresh the room for the evening. If you’re up early the next morning we suggest that you take advantage and light a candle or two, your family will thank you for it!
