BEFORE & AFTER | The NEGLECTED CORNER (On a Budget!)

Before and After | Diplomats Wife | House of Valentina-2
We all have a neglected corner of our home that we keep promising ourselves we will get to.  Today we’ve got an extra special before and after to share that we hope will inspire you to finally tackle that space, even if you are working on a limited budget!

Every project that I work on gets my full love and passion, but this one in particular was very close to my heart because it was in the home of one of my best friends.  Ania, a diplomat’s wife, asked me to help her bring this little area of her Copenhagen home to life and I was thrilled!  Ania’s husband has been away for months in an area where the family could not accompany him, so when Ania told me that she wakes up and sees this space first and it makes her sad, I knew I could not wait to get started.

With a few simple additions, some plants and a style session we took this little corner of her home from a neglected/dumping zone to an extra special retreat and morning greeting where Ania can sit with a cup of coffee to get the day started or a little glass of wine at the end of a long one.

(The family had about 5 months left in the home and since it was a rental, no structural/paint could be changed.)

We’ve got some before and after’s of Ania’s Neglected Corner plus a video!

Love love love! I can’t stress how much more I love walking by this corner or actually grabbing a chair and sitting their to enjoy it for a bit with a little something from the bar. It’s a small little corner or our home very much in our daily “traffic pattern” that just makes me happier to pass by a finished version of it, instead of seeing something I always meant to get done and hadn’t. Worth every penny! Thank you so much for making this a lovely spot in my home.

The home owner already owned the Hermes pillow. You could easily substitute it for another one that costs less and still have a beautiful space. 🙂

3. Add candles. Whether fragranced or not, candles add ambient light and the flickering is so soothing to the soul!
4. Add rough texture. Textures like concrete, wood, and even linen add a grittiness that can immediately make a space feel approachable and calming to the eye!
