Omg. Guys. It is officially MAY!!
It has been such an epic week!! Eeekk! We got an email from a local farm that strawberry season had begun and “you pick” was opening and after wrapping up a bit of work yesterday, we just decided to drop everything else we were doing and hit the country roads. What a feeling! Driving with the windows down, jazz music playing, and the afternoon sun warming our faces. God. I think we were as close to heaven as you can come! After filling our buckets with strawberries, we were grinning like two little kids bringing them home and whipping up some strawberry shortcakes. There’s just something about the start of strawberry season that makes it feel like Summer has arrived. And while I know there will be plenty who argue that summer doesn’t start until June 21st, summer started for us yesterday!
And my thinking was… if you want summer to last forever, doesn’t a little head start help? It can’t hurt, right? The hydrangeas are bursting with blooms and the blueberries have a combination of flowers and green little berries just starting to form… the lawn mowers are going again and so are the sprinklers. The kids are all, one by one, wrapping up their school year. So, guys, we leaping full on into a season of blue skies, vases overflowing with flowers from the garden, cobblers were every variety of summer fruit, barefoot walks in the garden, warm days spent splashing in the pool, picnics in the back yard, lightning bugs, bull frog…and best of all? doing it all together!
For us Americans, we will also be piling on the American flag swag… omg and then before we know it, watermelon season will be here, too. (Gasp! And corn! Omg. And the tomatoes. The way they smell on the vine? Diviiiine! It’s all just too much!!)
Summer is not a season, it’s a feeling, and I am so ready for it! This is a season to dream, to savor, to smile, and to enter into with nothing less than childlike wonder… the kind of feeling you get when you hop off that last step of the school bus with no backpack, no books, and no agenda other than an entire summer of adventure and fun.
Let’s decorate for it, bake with it, dream with it, and create the best memories of our wildest dreams!
Where should we start this weekend? We just planted up our tomatoes and staked them and I’ve got strawberry jam to make (of course!) and eating strawberry shortcakes until I feel like I’m going to explode! Haha!
However you choose to spend the weekend, I hope it is full of light, fun, decorating, baking, and, as always, time with the ones you love! Sending big hugs and a kiss for each cheek! xxV
