Clearly no one can trust my judgement. Such fickleness makes me completely unreliable.
Wait. What?! Did I really just say that WALLPAPER is BACK? Have I completely lost it?
My clients are asking me almost every day of the week if they should remove the wallpaper from their homes before they list and I generally give a resounding, “absolutely!!” But when my design clients ask if they should install it I give them the same answer.
Clearly no one can trust my judgement. Such fickleness makes me completely unreliable.
Or does it? The question of wallpaper isn’t black and white. It’s gray matter. It all depends.
Here are a few things to consider when listing your home:
- Is super trendy, outdated, or never was in style (ask your agent if in doubt)?
- Will buyers feel like they need to get your home at a bargain price to fix your wallpaper?
- Is it cracked, peeling, or in disrepair?
- Will buyers be turned off from your home that might have put in an offer?
- Is the color/pattern far, far too polarizing (like THIS.)?
If you answered yes to any of the questions above, take the wallpaper down. Your home is now your investment. Line your pockets, not your buyer’s!
Now, if you are in your home and have no intention of moving soon and are ready to make your space your own?
Here are a few things to consider when designing your home:
- Will the wallpaper stand the test of time. (Next week, next month, next year, 5 years?)
- Am I willing to take it down later if I really do hate it?
- Will it add depth and character to my space?
- Do I need to wallpaper the entire room or will one wall be enough?
- Does my happiness far outweigh the risk?
I leave the decision up to you!
The answer really is yes to the question of whether wallpaper is back. You can expect to continue seeing it come out in more colors and patterns than ever before! And with companies like Sandberg Wallpaper in Sweden leading the charge? It’s hard not to get excited.
I might just choose something neutral and classic if I do it!
