Hello, Tile Trends 2017!

January 13, 2017 · In: House Buying Tips, Interior Design

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina
What if someone asked you to describe your dream bathroom?  Would you have a quick answer?  Would you know the exact finishes and colors you would want?  We’ve got Tile Trends 2017 to share with you that will give you a little nudge just in case you haven’t got it all figured out… or to tempt you to something new!

I personally have never given much thought to what my ultimate bathroom would look like.  We’ve been perpetual renters for a really, really long time.  Instead, I have developed the habit of pinning bathrooms that are are SO inspiring… but ultimately leave me feeling completely stressed about trying to create a beautiful and awe inspiring bathroom on a teensy tiny budget.  Anyone else out there ever felt that way?

I think you will definitely find something to love among these iPhone photos I shot from my last visit to Floor & Decor, the go-to location for flooring in Atlanta.  I have to say, I was a little disappointed with the selection.  There seemed to be a bazillion options, but when you kind of know what you want or you hope to find something a little different their options fall a little short.  At least they did to me.  I had to go to Home Depot for a couple more options… and I’m still not sure what we are going to choose for our bathroom renovation!

One thing I do know?  No glass tile stripes.  No contemporary mosaics.  But, could someone please bring back Travertine.  My husband will not listen to me on this one.

Here are my favorite tile trends for 2017:

Wood Stamped tile?  It’s Here to Stay.  Lay it in a herringbone for a European feel!

Marble pattern Tile

It comes in all different shapes and sizes.

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina

I might be obsessed.

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina

Go bold.  Patterns are huge and this graphic black and white tile is to die for.  It’s expensive, so choose a small area if your budget is tight.

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina

Diamonds and black and white floors.  Forever.  (Choose porcelain tile for under $2/sq ft to keep the budget down)

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina

Chevron.  It’s here to stay as well.  Will it be here 5 years from now?  Probably!  10 years?  Maybe not.

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina

Subway Tile.  The one tile that my contractor told me that he has been installing since the 90’s and is still going strong.

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina

Hexagon and Penny Tile.  Yet another classic that is in it for the long haul.  Looks great on the floor and a built in shelf in the shower!

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina

Oversized Subway.  In an effort to differentiate, choose  larger subway.  (It looks good with marble tile!)

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina

Classic with a twist.  If black and white is too stark, choose a favorite in a shade of gray.

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina

Pricey, but woven marble is elegant, traditional, but looks amazing with modern subway for a transitional look.

Tile Trends 2017 :: House of Valentina

and finally, cement look-alike tile.  It looks awesome with wood stamped tile and subway tiles!

What do you think?  See anything you like?  Anything you would like to see stay or something you want to kick to the curb?  What is currently trending near you?  My observations are based on social media + Atlanta more specifically.

Why no glass tiles? I thought they were timeless?

I think it depends on what style. The subway style and larger ones are classic, but the small mosaics in blues and beiges are on their way out. (I’m reporting directly from my tile guy based on what he is installing locally!)

My main concern with floor tile would be what is it like when its wet! Slipping on wet tile just isn’t any fun….

That is such a great point! We happen to like matte tile, so the ones we got samples of are not so slippery, but that is definitely something good to remember!

I am loving the more dramatic tile I’ve seen – and it’s shocking, as I’m generally a patternless person 😉 …with a white or black wall of course!http://www.houzz.com/photos/58802633/SomerTile-Estrella-Nero-Ceramic-Floor-and-Wall-Tile-rustic-wall-and-floor-tile

yes! I love those! They remind me of our time in Morocco. From a real estate perspective, I’m worried if I put something like that in that I would really limit my buyer pool. What about you? Would you do it?

yes I would – and hope to with my own renovation….I struggled with the same idea of making the house “resale ready” but I realized that was just making decisions based on ‘one day’….if you know you are leaving in a year, then I suppose that’s another story….but if not, why not make your home for you, and not a home for the people who one day might live there? I say go for it…..classic is classic. If they’ve been in Morocco this long, surely they can stand even a little test of time here in the US? Whichever way you go, it will be beautiful – good luck!

I like the way you think! I totally agree! If you aren’t selling soon, make it your own. If you happen to like something “safe” it doesn’t hurt, though!
