The thing about brick is that it’s suppose to last forever. Or at least a century or two. Take the castles of Europe for example… they have a way of given the impression that this stuff is here to stay, which is probably why a lot of people prefer it over other materials. A four sided brick home? Now that’s the dream!
I just moved from a brick home… not the castle, but something that felt pretty special to me and if un-touched brick is what you want… there are people who can make that happen…
But sometimes brick can be a total visual snooze fest. It’s like the guy at the party who is always there, keeps the wall company, and never adds much to the conversation. It’s not that he’s a bad guy. In fact, he’s probably the kind of guy who is good for you. He’s steady, constant, and there to stand the test of time, but sometimes guys, and brick homes, need a little help. A little hair gel, some tighter jeans, and voila! He’s rocking your world! Bricks homes can be your rock star, too. Here are a few of my favorite methods for taking them from yeah to yeah, baby!
Give It the German Smear. (More than one color in the completed project.)
Lime Wash It (One of my personal favorites!)
Same lime wash, but on a slightly less HUMUNGOUS house…
Lime wash It, but Don’t Rewet the Solution to Reveal Brick underneath…
And don’t stress. (Paint last a long time…)
Or Paint It Pink or Blue or yellow…! (Though you may want to check with your neighborhood rules first!)
