Happy Friday! I never expected to be sitting here in the wilds of Nantucket. To be honest, I imagined this would be quite a traditional place with lots of American flags and blue dresses, but this island is full of surprises! I didn’t know it was so wild. I mean, like truly wild… where you feel the wind, salt is always hanging in the air, and there is a rawness and authenticity to the landscape.
Deer roam freely, as do the cutest little polka dot bottomed bunnies… and one cannot help but wonder how they found themselves on this little island which breaks the wind and the waves of the mighty Atlantic before they reach the shore.
The birds seem to sing louder and the waves are audible from almost anywhere one might find herself. The homes are worn and the air is crisp. There is a wildness in the dna of this place that feels comforting and unexpected. I think I’m in love.
There is a refinement, too, though… like a polished pearl that has found its greatest beauty in defending itself against the world. The locals apologize for the wind and the rain and we cannot help but rejoice in it! It speaks to the wildness of the place and while everyone only seems to want to celebrate the few weeks where there is nothing but sun and sea and bright blue skies, it is in this wild state of late spring where the skies are gray and the land is calm and the sea is crashing that I find a piece of myself… a moment when I feel it is ok to not fit into boxes, to not always meet everyone’s expectations, to bring a bit of the unexpected, to draw outside the lines, to dare to be different… it’s peace for the wild hearted to find a place that understands her.
With the approaching weekend, I hope you will find a moment of wildness, a moment where you dare to dream, to draw outside the lines and find freedom in your untamable spirit!
