A few weeks ago Dr. Pharris reached out and asked the question that I love to hear “Want to design another room?” Not only was I Dr. Pharris’s real estate agent for this home but since then we’ve redone the kitchen, breakfast room, living room and primary bedroom. This time he told me that he wanted to focus on the guest bedroom so he could create a space for his mom to stay when she visits. Renovation? Room design? For his mom? Yes, I’m in!
The room isn’t very large, has smaller windows, and he didn’t have a large budget so we focused on a few key things to create this luxurious renovation.
We Brought in the Light
The first thing we did was to remove the old shutters. Of course they’re beautiful but they literally blocked out all of the light. We added linen sheer curtains to give some privacy and add a lightness to the wall. We also changed the paint color from blue to… white! In rooms that are naturally dark a lighter paint color can really make a huge difference!
Then we turned our eyes to the lighting and replaced the ceiling light with a beautiful light from Home Depot and a few lamps around the room to add both low and medium height light.
Choose the right furniture
We were so grateful to work with Article on this project. We were able to pull together furniture for this room that was the correct scale. Before it was so overwhelming! By not buying oversized furniture we were able to bring in more furniture, which actually helps to make the room feel larger. Tap below to shop our favorite Article pieces!
Bring in the accessories
We had three primary areas to accessorize, including the bedside tables, the console and the dresser. We brought in accessories into each space that were not only proper scale but also pieces that added visual interest. By bringing in more accessories we keep the eye curious and moving around the room. This is another trick to make the room feel a bit larger.
This was one of our favorite renovation projects because we were able to so much in a relatively small space and the result is breathtaking! Check out our Youtube video to see the entire renovation and see mom’s reaction!
