I’m so excited to share some of my secret (soon to be not-so-secret) hacks to upgrading a home. So many of you have been asking about transforming those builder-grade homes that lack a bit of pizzazz, and I’m here to share a few of my tired & true styling hacks to achieve that million-dollar look without breaking the bank!
Tip #1 – Buy the best quality you can afford
Quality is key! Always opt for the best quality your budget allows—it’s a real money-saver in the long run! Quality is more than a price point, it’s usually reflected in a better build, higher quality materials and better sense of scale. So I always find the desired look first and then go backwards to find something in budget that can accomplish the look.
Tip #2 – Splurge on significant books
Now, let’s talk about the magic of coffee table books! Even with a budget of $100 or less, these beauties can make a space feel utterly complete! And hey, don’t shy away from those thrift stores—they’re a treasure trove of vintage books!
Tip #3 – Add a signature scent
A room can be drop-dead gorgeous, but if it’s harboring odd smells, it’s a no-go! Luxury hotels invest in a signature scent because it matters and this is also true for the home. There are so many options to choose from and we’ve curated a few of our current favorites here!
Tip #4 Add character with accessories and art
While many builder grade homes might miss out on architectural flair, I’ve got the perfect solution up my sleeve: accessories and art! Look for pieces that not only catch the eye but also spark curiosity. Remember, your space is a canvas, and artwork is your magic wand to elevate it to new heights. And when it comes to art, go BIG or go home! Choose pieces that leave an impression, pieces that linger in the minds of those who see them.
And here’s a pro tip for those who truly want their artwork to shine: Illuminate it with an art light from above. It’s all about making that masterpiece pop and giving it the spotlight it deserves!
Tip #5 Add ambiance with lighting
Ambiance on a budget? Absolutely possible! The key to lighting is layers and levels. Any room can be upgraded with the right table lamps, wall sconces and overhead lighting and don’t forget a few uplights to create a bit of depth behind a tree or piece of furniture.
Tip #6 Use black to add sophistication
Want a hint of chic sophistication? We achieve that by subtly incorporating black through lamps, side tables, picture frames, and even bench legs. It’s all about grounding the space with just enough depth! 🖤
