Life isn’t always so simple. When we are young and carefree we think nothing of throwing away the boundaries that hold our lives together. Drawing outside the lines or coloring our trees red is as natural as breathing, but as we grow older, the box offers safety… and sometimes safety feels awfully good in a world that feels unstable and uncertain.
And, while design outside the box sounds very chic and bohemian, practically speaking, most of us design within four walls which technically is a box with a few windows and doors thrown in for good measure.
Through Lotta Agaton’s project for the Stockholm Design Week we find inspiration that is both literally inside several boxes, yet breaks every boundary one’s mind might hold to. Not surprisingly, Lotta has received the award as Designer of the Year for her minimalistic installations that utilize a wide range of textures, shapes, and materials centered around several color palettes. Within each box is a feeling of movement that is compelling and intriguing, nearly demanding a closer inspection as one contemplates the blend of bespoke pieces mixed perfectly with daily objects such as baskets or dominos.
Now the biggest question is… which color is your favorite?
