Whoa. Wait a minute. Did I just read that right? Was I talking about us?
Yes. We, the devoted and self professed Urbanites, just bought a house in the Burbs. Are we caraaazy?
Well, yes, maybe a little, but the Burbs aren’t what they used to be. The internet has changed a lot of things, starting with commutes. And as more people want to live, work, and play close to home, towns of all sizes are using big city ideas to create some seriously awesome places to live.
After more than a decade spent abroad, mostly in urban settings, we are finally home… back in the leafy suburbs of Atlaaanta where we met and first got started. (We draw out our a’s down here, yaaa’ll.)
Oh, and did I mention that we have an entire house to transform? Built in the 90’s, it hasn’t been touched in over 20 years… It’s a bit builder grade, too. No pitched tudor roof, no mediterranean arches, and not one hint of a Victorian gabled exterior here. They call it “european stucco” though I can’t say that our travels on the other side of the pond ever brought us to a home that looked like this one. With pearly white original carpet (including the bathrooms. eww!), windows that need to be replaced, and walls that are in desperate need of paint, this place needs some serious attention.
The real question is… Can we bring an Urban Design sense to a home that lacks style and personality? Stay tuned because we hope to prove that you can live big in the Burbs!
Here’s to yet another big adventure!
