The shower is just about in! Woohoo! It feels like we are moving at a snail’s pace, but better that it be done right than done in haste. (Though a little more haste wouldn’t hurt if you ask me!) Either way, we are getting there and we have a master bathroom shower… almost! My favorite detail is definitely the beautiful zigzag/chevron shelf. We’ve got a sneak peek of all the faucets in the video so you can see where things are going!
I’m so ready to get that vanity out of the bedroom, along with all the boxes of STUFF. Right now I’m practicing patience amidst the messiness and being uprooted from our bathroom. Going upstairs and trying to get ready in a cramped bathroom brings back old memories! Ah, the good old days when I actually had a European bathroom… rather than trying to make my American one look like it belongs in Europe! LOL!
What do you guys think? Do you like the shower tile? Rather than going with a modern white subway tile, which was my husband’s main choice, we went with a cracked taupe tile. It is reminiscent of the subway in shape for him, but has a vintage feeling that I think will be beautiful with the faucets and tub!

Yes, yes I love the shower tile! In February, we removed the bathtub and installed a 60″ shower with gray subway tiles, with a 3-depth white accent spanning the shower sides, using charcoal-color grout, and it’s been-hands down-the highlight of our reno! We used dark brown vinyl plank flooring–we looked at the Travertine, but it wasn’t in the budget. Valentina, just love your blog, your home is exquisite, do not second-guess your choices!

That sounds fantastic! Glad to hear it was worth all the effort! It’s a little nerve wracking in the midst of it all!

Well, yes, it was! When we picked out the tile, it was hour #14 of being awake, and on the go, and finding a place we’d never been to before as we lived over an hour away from the reno condo. So, we get there, knowing the Contractor told us to, “…get large tiles…”, I proceed to gravitate toward the Travertine. Even on sale, it wasn’t going to work, then I realized they had to be sealed. Long story short, we selected the subway tile because it was in our budget, and the sales person was being super helpful and nice, overlooking our glazed-over eyes. Next day, the Contractor berates us about choosing small tile, and “it will cost more to install it.” So, we go to the nearest Loew’s, wait 30 minutes while the check on the larger tile we need, only to hear back from the Contractor, “Oh, well, since I hauled it here, I’ll use it, and not charge more.” At that point, we were so frazzled that the Loew’s salesperson (who was actually not happy with us asking for tile that was up on the top shelf) gave us 2 bottles of water as we sat in the garden center and moaned about how tired we were. When he sent us a photo of the shower, we were so happy, as our vision of a “Manly, yes, but I like it, too!” shower/bath was coming to fruition, despite the u-turns. The thing is, when he was telling us to get larger tiles, we mentally resisted, as we don’t like that look. To us, it seems as if the larger tiles were put up hastily, and for the Contractor’s convenience. Plus, it’s a modern look (IMO). Anyway, the shower is our favorite spot in the condo, the rain shower hand-held, glass doors, are perfect (budget-driven, also). We couldn’t afford to put a recessed soap niche, though. Oh, yeah, we also had bought the only ceramic style shelves available, and got reamed out for that choice, too. He said, “they are the worst, most horrible things you could have chosen!” They were the only type offered at the tile store, we didn’t know that style was too thick, and tended to come loose after awhile. So, when the Contractor picked up our tile, he bought 2 thinner ones at another store (actually, I have no idea where he got them). In the long run, he was right, the thinner shelves are so much nicer looking, we got schooled on tile, and really the only thing we agreed on was the charcoal grout. Which, we bought the pre-mixed, and he got his own dry to mix up (to control that, too, of course). After it was said and done, we had to return the un-used tile, grout and shelves to the tile store, but the refund made it all worthwhile. I can send a photo if I can figure out your email…I’m not on social media…too busy trying to appease Contractors (who rule the world, we found out).
