Guys, last week I did something a little crazy… I ordered open shelving for the kitchen! I KNOW!!! After years of having a large piece of artwork in this spot, we went back to an element from our ORIGINAL kitchen design and I am SO glad we did!
Here’s a little history—when we first renovated this kitchen, we had modern black metal open shelving and I absolutely loved them. But you know me, I needed a little break, so for a few years we swapped it out for art. And while it was beautiful… I started to really miss the storage AND that decor space (because where else am I going to display all my pretty bowls and cutting boards?!).
This time around, I went with WOOD shelving—and y’all, the color is utterly perfect! It’s a near-perfect match to our hardwood floors, which adds the warmest, coziest layer to the whole kitchen. Honestly? I’m completely blown away because these are from AMAZON. Real wood, hand-stained, and stunning! I still can’t believe it!
The second Jack hung them up, I went straight into decorating mode (obviously!). I love using open shelves for that perfect mix of practical pieces (the bowls, the platters, the everyday stuff!) layered with a little decor and a piece of art for soul. Cabbageware, blue willow, ironstone, a sweet little hydrangea painting… it’s giving cozy cottage and I’m HERE for it!
