Happy Friday, my lovely friends! What a wonderful week it has been and while it has been truly extraordinary (did you see the second episode of our Amazon show?!) I’m looking forward to a weekend of flowers, baguettes, and white wine. I can’t wait to wear my jeans and white button down shirt and loafers and my corduroy blazer. Clearly I have it all worked out!
I’ve been thinking about Audrey Hepburn this week a lot. Her gracious manner was truly inspiring! What a beautiful legacy to leave behind- one that reminds us to be effortless, forgiving (of ourselves and others) and to face life with kindness and grace (though not without a little spunk in there as well!). I took a break from my binge watching of Hallmark Christmas movies (anyone else love a good romantic story with a guaranteed happy ending?!) and began watching “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” I love a “Roman Holiday” as well. Many, many years ago when the kids were quite little we got to visit Rome and the “Mouth of truth” where there’s a famous scene from the movie where she puts her hand in it and then tells Gregory Peck to do the same and he pretends to have his hand bitten off. The funny thing is that at the time I had never watched the movie, but had queued up simply because other tourists had! I have a little souvenir that looks like the face of the Mouth of Truth that sits in my drawer in a little bowl and it just makes me smile because it reminds me of her.
Isn’t it funny how people we don’t know can leave such a lasting impression on us? But it’s not just Audrey Hepburn that I think of when I think of effortlessly graceful people. I’ve met so many of you and so many people around the world who exude that same quality. My mom has always been like that, too! I think I was a solid 12 years old before I hear my mom cuss and boy, did I ever deserve it when she doled it out to me! My brother and I were always a bit wild and ready for some adventure… even when we were told it could be dangerous!
My poor mom had her work cut out with me, but as I grow older, I am leaning more into her example and hoping I will live long enough to some day catch up with her!
Life can catch us off guard, it deals us a hand no one would wish for, but if we can find a way to remain (or become!) gracious then I believe we will be better off for it… and so will our homes! I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I can create more of that feeling in our home and I have decided that a bouquet of flowers and a little plate with croissants on it is such a simple little way to create a beautiful and effortlessly gracious feeling. It’s the little things that can make us smile!
Well, I hope your weekend is full of love, graciousness, flowers, and even some chocolates, if possible! And, as always, I hope your days of full of love and joy! Bon weekend, my lovely friends! xxV
