Mom’s Traditional Bathroom Makeover :: The Before

Traditional Bathroom Makeover | House of Valentina
I was up to my eyeballs with packing our shipping crate and selling off what couldn’t fit when my mom e-mailed me about her bathroom.  Having hoped for a long time to paint it, she wondered if I would be interested in helping.  Looking around me at the chaos, the emotional drain, and then factoring in the complete and utter exhaustion I felt in that moment, I quickly wrote back, “yes.”

Maybe it’s not something every kid fantasizes about, but for me, getting to “play” in my mom’s house is a dream come true.  I don’t walk into other people’s houses and immediately start redecorating them unless they have specifically asked me to come for that reason, but with my mom (and my grandmother’s) house it was always a safe place to dream.  I suppose, in a way, that it felt like “mine” so it was an imagination playground.  Of course my mom loves to decorate so she hasn’t always been so keen for her kid to walk in and start moving things around, so we decided for this makeover that we needed to team up and really aim to create something that she would love but had a little bit of my modern perspective infused into a space that is obviously quite traditional.

We are well under our way in this space, so today I want to show you the traditional bathroom makeover before photos.  With dark cherry cabinets, creamy counter tops, and a grand chandelier we had a great starting point.  We also couldn’t help but continue our paint into the water closet.

My mom likes to include anything and everything related to travel with a touch of glamor in all her rooms.

Can you guess which color/s we chose for the walls?
