In July, I swore I wasn’t going to decorate for fall this year. I told myself I’d wait… savor summer… keep things simple. Then I’d skip right to Halloween… because I’m so excited about Halloween! And then August rolled in with its golden light and cooler mornings, and—well—you can guess what happened. The pumpkins came out! The cozy throws came out! And before I knew it, the living room had fully transformed into a warm, modern cozy Fall haven.
This year, I leaned into rich textures, moody tones, and those little details that make a space feel seasonal without screaming “theme party.” My Pottery Barn pumpkins were my first indulgence—they have this beautifully weathered charcoal finish that feels chic and a little bit edgy, perfect for mixing in with our black fireplace and sculptural decor. From there, it was all about layers: buttery camel and bold houndstooth pillows, a decadent faux fur throw draped over the sofa, and branches in those burnished autumn tones that instantly warm up the room.
I also brought in soft, glowing candlelight—tucked into vessels on the mantel, scattered across the marble coffee table, and even one I made myself with candle sand. These little pools of light make the whole room feel like it’s wrapped in a hug, especially when the fire is going.
The best part? Almost everything is moveable and reusable. The pumpkins migrate from the mantel to the entry table, the pillows get swapped between rooms, and the florals will be here until the last leaves drop outside. Decorating for fall doesn’t have to be a complete overhaul—it’s about those thoughtful touches that shift the mood and make you want to linger just a little longer in your favorite room.
And honestly? I’m so glad I didn’t stick to my “no fall decor” plan. Because walking into this space now feels like a deep breath of crisp autumn air… without ever leaving the house.
