The British countryside has cast its enchanting spell on us, and it’s been nearly a decade since we first set foot on its picturesque terrain. The allure of those idyllic villages has stayed with us, one of our favorite memories for sure!
I can still imagine strolling along those cobblestone pathways, the scent of delicate roses filling the air, and the soothing melody of babbling streams in the background. I LOVED the charming villages, where a cup of tea and warm scones awaited, a perfect moment of deliciousness and tranquility!
The romance and serenity of the British countryside have left their mark on our hearts, and today, we’re excited to share some of our all-time favorite shows that effortlessly transport us back to those picturesque landscapes.
Downton Abbey
Downton Abbey gracefully unfolds over six seasons, spanning the years from 1912 to 1926. This show boasts an all-star cast, including the aristocratic Crawley family, their dedicated household staff, and a host of newcomers who enter their lives through marriage.
While the series exudes an air of manners, opulence, and sophistication, don’t be deceived by its posh exterior. “Downton Abbey” has garnered a strong following for its gripping drama, offering both compelling storytelling and breathtaking landscape shots. It’s a journey that will enchant and captivate you from start to finish.
Gardeners’ World
Gardeners’ World, a beloved British television treasure that has graced the screens for nearly 54 glorious seasons, marking its debut in 1968. Monty Don has been the charming, charismatic host since 2003.
What sets “Gardeners’ World” apart is that Monty Don hosts the show right from his own haven, the picturesque two-acre Longmeadow garden nestled in the heart of the West Midlands of England. It’s a delightful journey through the world of gardening.
Midsomer Murders
This series is inspired by Caroline Graham’s Chief Inspector Barnaby book series. Each episode we join Detective Chief Inspector and his trusty partner, Sergeant Gavin Troy as they tackle a myriad of intriguing cases in the picturesque Midsomer County.
What makes this show truly special? It’s a delightful blend of nostalgia and humor. This series skillfully transports us to a bygone era of British country life, capturing its essence before it fades into history. Get ready for a journey that will keep you both entertained and touched.
Grantchester
This show is about Reverend Sidney Chambers, not your typical clergyman from the 1950s in Cambridgeshire. With his trusty bicycle by his side, he embarks on an unexpected journey into the world of amateur mystery-solving. The stories are well crafted and the scenery is truly sublime.
Pride and Prejudice
Set in England in the early 19th century, Pride and Prejudice tells the story of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet’s five unmarried daughters after the rich and eligible Mr. Bingley and his status-conscious friend, Mr. Darcy have moved into their neighborhood.
There are been multiple versions of this made but the 1995 series with Colin Firth is my personal favorite.
