There was a time when I was obsessed with light, bright, and white interiors. And it’s not as though I have left it altogether… it’s just that once I went to the dark side… There was such a comfort and ease that the darkness provides. It seems as though even the most mundane things in the world look striking with a dark and dramatic backdrop.
And while I realize that much of the world is still pining over white rooms, I feel it is my duty… my destiny, really, to continue my exploration into the deep, cavernous world of these murky and shadowy hues… in my own home at the very least!
Perhaps it is the romantic within me. I imagine myself caught within the pages of some daring novel. My Harry Potter-esque world meets the forlorn Miss Havisham. To me a dark interior ignites curiosity, wonder, and a little bit of magic…
We’ve got a major kitchen renovation on the horizon and I have thought of little else for months… 18 of them to be almost exact. I ache for a nebulous, shadowy kitchen where the light streams into the windows in pale streaks, striking against the dark and creating an atmosphere that is cozy, alluring, and dramatic.
I know it’s not for everyone… but here are just a few of my favorite kitchens that have fed my infatuation…
These kitchens are so, so much more at the enviable Devol Kitchens (They have light ones, too for those less inclined to the dark side!)
