Who wants an old house? It sounds dingy and dodgy and maybe downright gross. But add a couple words to the mix and suddenly you have… “old world charm” … which of course is something that many of us would love to have in our homes. The words “patina” and “shabby chic” have been grossly over abused these last few years and have reduced these once popular styles to the “old” category.
But old can be awesome. Old can mean warm, lived-in, cozy… just to name a few.
Which is exactly why I can’t get enough of this new Nashville home that was made over to look “old”. Here is proof that a new house made old is freakin’ awesome. A worn bench paired with slate tiles, a pear trellis, a sofa that looks like the perfect Sunday nap location… And we haven’t even gotten to the limestone sink in the mud room or the beautiful brass bird handle in the kitchen.
Designer Jeanette Whitson cleverly used new oak floors and hand brushed them with stain to achieve the antique wide plank look she wanted. The wallpaper, vintage furnishings, and matte grey walls only add to the feeling that this home has been here forever.
