It’s Thursday night and, as usual, the week went by too fast. Does anyone else crave the only thing we cannot print more of- time?
I’ve been thinking a lot these last few days about standing out. I’ve never been the type of person who craved attention. Ask my husband. Every time we go to a big party or a large function he turns around to talk to me and STILL to this day will find me holding up the back corner wall! Standing out can be hard when blending in is soooo much more comfortable! But that is not a destiny any of us should choose! We are built for greatness and life will give us moments when being bold is better than hiding in the shadows!
Our days on this planet- they are fleeting. What do we want to be remembered for? What is the legacy we are building? Fear of rejection can plague us, yet my ethos is that I’d rather face rejection (even though it is rarely actually there!) than to face knowing I didn’t allow myself to truly be ME.
Being abroad gave me a lot of practice, especially when we lived in North Africa. There was no hiding the fact that I was a foreigner! And little by little I grew more accustomed to being different and standing out. Being a mom will also cure us of hiding ourselves from the world, won’t it? Would we tell our kids to hide their true self and just blend in? Of course not! And so we must lead. We must love what we love, be who we are, and believe that we will find kindred spirits along the way who will love the deepest depths of our souls rather than the superficial version we might over wise have presented the world. Basically, I think we should just be ourselves, embrace the things that make us different, and have a little faith in ourselves.
So what are we up to this weekend? Well, first of all, I’m going to get my wardrobe summer ready! I’m going to do some outfit planning, some basement sorting and start to design Hailey’s bedroom which she has vacated… a fact of which I have been readily avoiding for over three weeks. As you might imagine from the previous paragraph… I’m about to come out of the gate swinging and I’m dreaming up designs that scare me a little- but if what we are about to do doesn’t scare us just a little, are we really pushing ourselves to become our greatest? I don’t think so. I’m going to go for it.
And I hope you will as well- in whatever it is you are planning- go all in. Give it everything you’ve got. Don’t hold back. Don’t let fear stop you. If you can’t find anyone around you who believes in you then let that person be me. We can stand together!
I love you guys so much and love our Fridays together so so much! I can’t wait to hear what you are up to and where deciding to stand out is going to take you. A big hug and a kiss for each cheek. xxV
