Why does it always take us by surprise? Or is it just me? I’m riding the wave of winter and cozy fires and then bam. It’s like a floral obsession hits and I’m done. I’m like ok, let’s shed winter (no, no one informed the weather. But does that matter to me? No.) Spring fever hits and I’m a mix of let’s stay in bed a few extra minutes and LET’S GO PLANT AN ENTIRE GARDEN! Hahaha. I bought a bouquet of faux dogwoods this week (yes, they are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my entire life!!!), a rose scented candle (a serious OMG, you need to try this kind of candle!), and snow boots. Hahaha Louis just looked up at me from my lap with a face that said, “mom. You are laughing out loud- at yourself and BY yourself.”
I know it’s kind of crazy, but I can’t stop thinking about snow drops popping their heads through the snow and the arrival of the daffodils and tulips. It’s such a rush to have all of this awaiting us, and we haven’t even broken ground on our backyard project (though we do have hoa approval, which means we are very close to beginning!).
A year ago I boldly said that we could easily create our dream home if we started to focus on actually defining it. I had NO IDEA how much that statement would change my life and my home and even my priorities. It was such a simple statement yet RADICAL if you really think about it. I was struggling to sort through all the incredible inspiration, ideas, and possibilities out there… and then everything became so crystal clear.
If you get even a few minutes over the weekend, I highly recommend pulling out a notebook or a pad of paper (or even just type it in your phone!) and writing down a few things that make your house feel like a home. Three big things were on our list besides the laughter of our kids and the sound of someone yelling out, “I’m home!” Those things were flowers, a cake stand full of treats, and a garden.
So, this weekend, I’m finalizing my garden/backyard plan even though snow is on the forecast (and definitely on the ground where we are headed next week- Copenhagen!) I’m also baking, and filling the vases in every room with blooms, even if they are faux!
And then I’m really starting to prioritize our basement project which we have been saving up for for years. I’m thinking boot/mud room, library, floral arranging table, and shelves for all my vases. That sounds like an absolute fantasy- and why shouldn’t we create just that?
I wish you a wonderful and cozy weekend loaded with flowers, candles, and perhaps even some chocolates and champagne! Sending big hugs and a kiss for each cheek! xxV
