The the little things. I was thinking about that earlier when I was putting my spaces together. We’d spent the morning collecting pine cones and twigs and adding candlelight and leather and fur and velvet and wicker. Jack kept running downstairs to our little shelves where we stash all the things and he would ask each time he deposited something at my feet, “what next?” I kept saying, “all the things! All the things!,” as I sent him to the backyard to forage for big branches for the vases. I decided back in July that I wanted to do an “enchanted forest” Christmas and when I told Hailey that she looked at my skeptically. She’s too polite to ask how that fits with my black and white color theme and also be around long enough to know that I’ll figure it out!
Well, that image has stayed with me and as I started to put fall together I couldn’t help but want to get started on that feeling. So, we’ve been foraging in the backyard and the basement for little things that will bring the feeling of an enchanted forest to life, even for fall. The house feels so cozy I can barely stand to tell you without showing you. I hope we are in for the most enchanting and cozy (and still a bit glamorous!) Autumn ahead of us! I’ve already gotten started with loaves of artisanal breads on the bread board and little bowls of dipping oil next to them, the cake stand overflowing with freshly baked croissants and I’ve been bringing out all the cozy sweaters and even getting to wear a few in the cooler evenings. It’s here. A season where dreams can come true… where we snuggle together with our loved ones and celebrate the days ahead. Fall always feels like a gift… a time to rest and a time to celebrate, so let’s pull out the dinnerware and the soup bowls and the champagne glasses and the fuzzy blankets and prepare for a season of candlelight and magic. Eeekkk!!! I can’t wait!
I hope you have a beautiful weekend ahead. I know I’ll be using mine to prepare for several big projects that I’m so excited about (and, of course!, plan to share with you!). Our boys are coming home from University and Jack’s got plans to smoke all sorts of things… but right now I’m most excited about getting to bed a little early so I can get up and take our Landon to breakfast in the morning (his request which I am happy to oblige) and then run by the farm shop for eggs for Sunday’s brunch and see what late summer fruits might find their way to our fruit bowl.
Sending love to each of you and a kiss for each cheek! Bon Weekend! xxV
