Michaela and Mike recently moved into their dream home, a craftsmen style home on a wooded lot in South Carolina. With a desire to represent his and her tastes plus respecting the fact that they have two small boys, we peeked at their living room plus some of their favorite rooms before creating a guide for the new space. With a $15,000 budget for the entire room, creating a floorpan plus buying guide was a less expensive way to coach this family of four through the decorating process. As their interior coach, I was able to show them how the room might look, with a purchasing plan that they can use to complete the room of their dreams.
Much like with a good outfit, I focused on balancing long lasting and high quality staples that would stand the test of time and two boys. The tables, the sofa, the bookshelf, and chairs will be with this family for many years to come and will wear well with use. This room is not going to have a television, so we added games, a comfortable place to sit with a good book with the boys, and enough sophistication that they can entertain their friends into the night by the warmth of the fire. Again, just like a really compelling outfit, the accessories really make the room, so we added layers of texture, warmth, and sophistication through the lighting, pillows, and rug. They both liked rooms with vintage maps and she really loves quirky accents and art deco, so these elements were brought in through the vase that has been on her wish list for a long time, the Fornasetti pillow, and a beautiful map that represents where they have been together or maybe a future trip they would love to take!
