Good morning Ladies and Gentlemen. Design court is now in Session. I am calling the case of Textured Walls Vs Flat Walls. Please raise your right hand and solemnly swear to fairly try this case…
Let’s begin by entering exhibit A, the before photos of the subject in question. These photos are of my client’s home who is in the Atlanta area. She and her family have recently moved back from abroad and have just bought their first family home which might need a coat or three of paint…
As you can clearly see, these walls are yellow, very yellow. But they are also textured. In the case of textured walls vs flat walls, there is no debate about the color. It has to go. But should the texture stay?
My client wants them to go. Scraped, smoothed, and all evidence of their existence removed forever and ever. May the yellow rest in peace! The flat wall is cleaner, lighter, and more modern feeling, she says. It’s what people normally do. Enter Exhibit B, the Flat Wall:
But let’s here from the defense. Why keep the textured walls? First, because they are cool, especially with grey paint. Second, they are different and unexpected and that makes them worth considering. Third, they add character that is hard to come by in suburban homes. Enter Exhibit C: Textured wall photos… perhaps we can still win this case by simply suggesting a change of color?
Now, dear jury, the case is in your hands. Have you reached a decision?

Just got my summons for jury duty here in San Fran, so your theme for today, made it even extra hard to put off relishing your consistently on point and fabulous House of Valentina visual feasts. Long time super fan of all your European endeavors, but am really loving what Atlanta has been adding to your impeccable style. Adore your achromatic color palettes, but am also really loving how you are incorporating color, now that you are back in the States. Thank you for sharing your passion for art, architecture, real estate, styling, travel, and love of life in the way that you and Jack do. Appreciate your inspiration, and the opportunities you are giving me to not only expand my visual esthetic, but also challenge and refine what I am photographing with my iphone. Lastly, am most grateful that you are as thoughtful as you are about the financial angle of things, as shown by your willingness to share treasures you have unearthed that are thoughtfully priced, and budget friendly. Thanks to your influence, I just gathered about 25 colorful fabric samples I had collected for free in 2007, and neatly folded each fabric scap, fitting the entire collection of colorful scraps into a clear acrylic box (www.muji.com). I loved how this project turned out, and I credit your guidance over the past two years, for helping me use what I already have on hand, in a new, and most visually and emotionally gratifying way. Take care Valentina! Thanks again!
