Stagingย typically means taking the life out of a home, while styling is about putting it back in. ย It is about selling a lifestyle and a story…ย
One of the best things for me about living in Scandinavia for six years was the immersion into the design world. ย Working as a stylist and photographer in real estate gave me the opportunity to work and be trained by some of the top designersย in the world. ย I learned how to style homes of all different varieties and budgets and I loved every minute of it.
And, yes, I do use the word “style” on purpose rather than “staging” because a home styled to sellย is about helpingย a homeย reach its full potential. ย
I like to think of it as giving a home its “day at the spa” where it is pampered for its big photo shoot. ย Most people want to buy more than a property. ย They want a home, so styling a home with life in it that is strategic and well thought out gets results.
My clients liked when a few hours of my time meant getting top dollar for their properties!
This home in Sweden is a perfect example of a home styled to sell. ย It is warm, it is bright, and it is welcoming. ย I love the shades of blue throughout, the plants, the blankets… And OMG… ย The kid’s bedroom is so precious. ย I want to move in immediately!

I love the word “styled” over “staged”. It’s a mindset shift…and a good one. People like to picture themselves living in the house they’re looking at and many of the staged homes lose the life that makes them so inviting. They lose that warm feeling that people look for in a home and often feel more sterile than inviting. That’s the difference between a house and a home. A home captures a family a heart, a house is just where someone might lay their heads for a short period of time. Good “styling” (love it!) keeps that warm feeling that a *home* needs to appeal to a family looking to create their own memories there. Great post!
