A few weeks ago, we introduced our ‘Dear V’ segment on Amazon LIVE for home, and the response has been nothing short of incredible. Every week, we dive into a viewer’s space, dissect their design challenges, and I share my design solutions. This time, we had the privilege of featuring Janice’s already beautiful living room.
Janice’s space had a strong foundation – gorgeous sofas that lent an air of softness and movement to the room, and an beautiful coffee table that caught the eye. Yet, Janice had a vision. She yearned to introduce more black into the space and elevate it to that coveted luxury hotel feel.
My design approach aimed to retain the beauty of her sofas while addressing a key issue – the coffee table was dragging the eye down because of the small rug. The ceiling fan, the TV doors above the fireplace, and the wall niche were a bit distracting. To combat this, I introduced a new light fixture, a statement mirror above the fireplace, and a significantly larger rug. These changes, along with longer, one-color curtains and a lighter paint shade, transformed the room into a more spacious and luxurious space.
Black, a personal favorite of mine, became the unifying thread throughout the design. Stunning accessories, including captivating cocktail tables and playful black knot pillows, brought a bit of edginess into the space as well.
What makes designs like these so special is that they demand minimal physical alterations to the room itself, allowing for budget-friendly execution either all at once or in stages. The best part? Every single item is conveniently available on Amazon, making this design journey both stylish and wallet-friendly.
