I started yesterday. I realized that Valentine’s Day is only a couple weeks away and I needed to start planning something before I forgot… a habit I have made for many years! I used to be in the camp of people that thought Valentine’s Day was a bit silly… until I lived abroad and it wasn’t there anymore. There weren’t hearts plastered all over the store fronts or lingerie being put in every display. No heart shaped chocolates and definitely no overpriced roses or balloons at every turn.
And I realized that I missed it. I missed the celebrations and the special dinners. I missed the marking of time that Valentine’s gives us between the New Year and Spring. But most of all, I missed a season of sending notes and gifts to loved ones.
I have become a person who will look for any and every reason to celebrate, so instead of only celebrating Valentine’s Day, we actually spend a season focused on taping notes to the mirror, sending texts with hearts, and even buying chocolates and little gifts… because why wouldn’t we want to celebrate love…. of any and every kind.
Well, that’s just my two cents about Valentine’s Day. I’m all in. I bought heart shaped bowls from amazon to set my table with and I’ve ordered lingerie from Victoria Secret and I’ve placed my order for those chocolates… Ethel M’s decadent, run down your face, chocolate covered cherries… because they are his favorite! I treated Hailey to an adorable pair of Valentine’s pj’s with puppies and hearts all over them, too.
I decided that this was going to be a year of joy and in that year – we need to remember to celebrate love!
