I was trying to remember if I’d ever told you how much I love evenings in our home. There’s some sort of magic that descends as the air turns to soft hues of buttery yellow and golden oranges and the house is suddenly aglow. Jack has all of the lights throughout the entire house on auto settings so as soon as the sun hits the horizon, the lamps spring to life to fill in the gaps nighttime gives.
I love going around the house and lighting the candles while listening to the sounds of the house which usually includes the kids laughing and playing. We love playing soft jazz music while we clean up the dinner dishes and start our night time garden routine, which includes checking on the status of the herbs, the tomatoes, and especially at this time of year… the figs.
Our hydrangeas are blooming like crazy this year and though I’ve been enjoying them on the bushes I clipped a few because I just couldn’t help but want to bring some in (but I did also reserve a few on the bushes so we could still have the beautiful view of the rest from the windows!)
Look at that ruckus! Such a dramatic display of summer! I put them into my fluted vase from amazon and even added in my new ruffled bowl from H&M and, of course, my Magnolia Estate Candle, which epitomizes the fragrance of summer!
If we can, we love to sneak in a refreshing Lemon Mint Lemonade made with the mint from our garden and listen to the water splashing in the fountain as the nighttime chorus begins. I still laugh about my friend asking if she’d moved to the “f-ing bayou” when she moved up the street. haha. Yeah. It definitely feels like that and it’s GLORIOUS!
I’m SO EXCITED about the upcoming weekend! We have big plans to bake my favorite Greek Almond and Citrus Cake and start trying out new recipes for Greek spinach pies. My mom has made hers the same way her mom did and I’m sure her mom did before her, but while I was in Rhodes (more on that coming to the LIVING CHANNEL on Tuesday!) I discovered that they are insanely yummy even when vegan so it has given me courage to attempt to make something that rivals my mom’s recipe… passed down from generation to generation. oi. It’s worth trying at least, right?
The forecast shows that temps will be cooling to the mid 70’s in the evenings, so I’m hoping we will get to dine alfresco using all the yummy herbs from the garden and maybe even run by the Farm Shop to grab some extra flowers for the urns that are looking a tad scarce now that the hellebores have given their all (can you believe those lasted since January?!)
Whatever your plans are, I hope your weekend is full of magic and wonder and that these summer days pass slowly and are full of love and joy and ever so much laughter! Happy Weekend, my Beautiful Friends! xxV
