While we would all love to wear heels every day, there are some days when we just NEED TO WEAR SNEAKERS! They are more comfortable and give us the ability to move faster and last on our feet. The problem is that they can oftentimes make our outfits look sloppy, which, in turn, makes us look and feel the same.
There is a BETTER WAY, my friends! We can have our cake and eat it, too, with just a few key mistakes to avoid along with a few tips that will help you pull everything together!
Let’s Talk Sneakers FIRST
You may want to have more than two sneakers in your closet, but these two will give you a huge leap into the world of stylish yet affordable but COMFY outfits!
- Somiliss Suede Walking Shoe: These are gorgeous with a slightly chunkier sole and memory foam giving them a cloud like feel.
- Tretorn Rawlins Lace-Up: These have a thinner sole, appearing less chunky while still maintaining a cloud like feel thanks to the foam insoles.
STYLE RULES THAT WILL ALWAYS MAKE YOUR SNEAKER OUTFITS SHINE:
1. ALWAYS MATCH THE SHOE TO THE COLOR PALETTE OF THE OUTFIT
In today’s outfits we kept things simple with two neutral sneakers. You’ll see in each of these looks that the beige/taupe tones are reflected back through the outfit at least once, if not two or three times, to give a balanced look to the color palette of the outfit.
2. TAKE A 50/50 APPROACH TO CASUAL ELEMENTS VS DRESSIER ELEMENTS
In each outfit we keep half the elements casual and the other half dressier. Don’t feel like you have to keep to this exact formula, but use it as a guide to keep each element in harmony, so if we half a casual pair of sneakers, a ball cap, and a jean, we can balance that with a dressier necklace, bag, and belt.
3. BALANCE THE HEAVIER WEIGHT OF A CHUNKY SNEAKER WITH A TIGHTER PANT
Sneakers definitely give a heavier weight to an outfit, especially when you choose a chunkier style, so we like to pair those chunkier sneakers with a more fitted pant to balance the look. You can also bring more balance to the outfit by adding visual “weight” to the top of your outfit with a little more oversized shirt and/or blazer.
4. BALANCE THE WIDTH OF A WIDER PANT LEG WITH A SLIMMER PROFILE ON THE SNEAKER
For wider leg pants, whether they are jeans, skirts, or trousers, choosing a lower profile sneaker like the Tretorn that doesn’t have a thick sole, adds a feeling of lightness to the bottom of the outfit. I like to think of it as being more delicate that way!
5. MIND YOUR TAILORING
Going for an overall more tailored look when dressing with sneakers will help your overall look to feel more chic and pulled together. Tucking in your shirt, wearing a belt, and pairing your outfits with more structured bags helps your look feel purposeful and not sloppy!
