Asking me to choose between fashion and interior design is like asking me to choose between chocolate or peanut butter… not possible! If we’ve learned anything from the miracle known as Reese’s Peanut Butter cups, it’s that sometimes the best choice is a combination. I see such a strong connection between interior design and fashion; the two seriously influence each other.
I love rooms that have a fashion feel to them. Here’s what I mean: Every outfit has a foundational piece that sets the tone, around which the other pieces play off and complement. Every outfit has multiple elements that don’t have to match exactly but need to complement each other. And just like every outfit needs a piece that pops or stands out, whether it’s killer heels, a gorgeous handbag, or those must-have earrings, rooms need that statement piece too.
A well-designed room will include foundational pieces, complimenting elements, and stand-out pieces. This combination is what makes a room come together and feel comfortable at the same time.
This room design from West Elm is a perfect example of a fashion-forward space, and I can’t get enough of it! The way the foundational pieces like the sofa and rug create a solid base, the complimentary elements like the coffee table and greenery add texture and interest, and the stand-out pieces like the art and lighting fixture bring personality and style to the space, it’s a perfect harmony of fashion and interior design.
