I made a huuuuge change this week in my closet. As in, I tried something that I have NEVER tried before. (yes! a tour is coming very soon!) It left me feeling slightly… cagey and uncertain … but then also exhilarated and… inspired.
Being brave can feel terrifying and sometimes you might find yourself wondering if this is the end or just a new beginning… as in, are you about to take a quick leap of faith and arrive at your destination… or are you about to take a long leap into the unknown where the end isn’t quite clear?
As a person who has looked fear in its face many times, I can tell you this. There’s no way to know where bravery will lead you. You will be faced with two options: the fear of not knowing what would have happened if you HAD tried and the fear of what will happen if you DO. I’ve always been more afraid of the former, and therefore, almost always take the leap.
The funny thing about bravery is that even if you thought you were making a small move, just acting upon it will change you. You might just find that bravery breeds bravery and while your fears may never subside, your bravery seems to always come up to meet you at just the right moment.
It’s like training a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it is when you call upon it.
What I love about interiors is that your home can become a testing ground for your thoughts and ideas. It can inspire you to be brave and therefore, it will breed bravery in other areas of your life. When I try something new in a room, like my closet this week, it makes me feel brave and encouraged to try something new in my wardrobe, in my beauty routine, in my cuisine… and then in my life, in my work, and in my relationships…
Bravery is a starting point. It’s a leap and it doesn’t mean that everything turns out the way you thought it would, but the end result, to me, is always worth it. Where I am today is not where I will be tomorrow… I am ever growing and evolving and becoming… and that, while terrifying at times, is also THRILLING.
So don’t worry today about whether you will be brave enough to make it to “the end” but just find enough for today and somehow it will enough for the rest of the days that are to come. xxV
