I fell off the table setting band wagon hard and fast a couple months back. It had started to feel like a chore and I couldn’t figure out how to make it feel MODERN, SENSUAL, and yet COZY. But, as you might imagine from the title, your girl is back in the saddle and I’m armed now with a much clearer picture of what makes a table look tempting to sit at and comfortable enough that we linger at it with our kids whether we are having a feast or just takeout!
I’ve realized that, at least for now, I prefer a round placemats because it doesn’t consume the entire “real estate” of the table like the rectangular ones do that cover almost the entire surface of the table. I also love modern, clean lined and delicate tableware, like fluted dinnerware and slender flatware that feel heavy in the hand yet refined to the touch.
For glassware I have become more obsessed than ever about classic stemware. I’ve been using less and less “trendy” glassware and going for something timeless. I ADORE the Zwiesel stemware that is still being made in Germany as in was since 1872 (it’s SUPER DURABLE!), but I still mix in inexpensive finds from Amazon, too!
The finishing touches are where I really geek out over my little installations and this time of year I ALWAYS reach for smoked glass votives, soft linen napkins, and whatever happens to be blooming (or DRYING!) in the garden!
So, those are just a few things that I have taken away this week. I realize that I’m one of the few people on the planet who actually sets the table in the first place (please leave me a comment if you do as well so I will not feel so loooonely in the world!) but even if you haven’t been doing it, I would suggest giving it a try! We have the kids empty the dishwasher and put everything back on the table so it really is quick clean up and a faster reset!
