โWhat do I do with an awkward space?โ If I had a dollar for every time Iโve been asked this, Iโd haveโฆ well, a lot of dollars! ๐ But seriously, if youโre struggling with a tricky corner, a weird nook, or a space that just doesnโt quite workโyouโre not alone! All of us have that one spot in our home that feels, wellโฆ awkward.
For me, itโs the area at the top of my stairs. Not only is it a narrow walkway leading to all the upstairs bedrooms, but it also has a soffit covering a support beamโmaking it extra fun to work with (read: quite frustrating!).
So, how did I tackle it? Strategic styling, of course! I found a pair of slim cabinets on Amazon that were the perfect sizeโnot only do they look beautiful, but they also add much-needed storage (because who doesnโt need more of that?). To bring life to the space, I added oversized artwork above the cabinets, which instantly made the area feel more intentional and cohesive.
Next, I layered in tall cylinder vases for a bit of drama and some lush greenery to freshen things up. Shagreen boxes? Yes, please! Theyโre gorgeous and functional, offering extra storage while looking effortlessly chic. For lighting, I went all-in: backlighting behind the cabinets for a moody, dramatic effect and a tall table lamp to warm up the whole space.
And because texture is everything, I topped it off with a few carefully chosen accentsโa moss-filled black bowl, a large decorative sphere, and a stack of books for that collected, layered look. Oh, and letโs not forget the finishing touchโa warm, beautiful rug to ground the entire space and make it feel cozy.
So, if youโve got an awkward space thatโs driving you crazy, donโt stressโthereโs always a way to make it work beautifully! Itโs all about finding the right pieces, playing with scale, and layering in elements that bring both function and style.
