“What do I do with an awkward space?” If I had a dollar for every time I’ve been asked this, I’d have… well, a lot of dollars! 😆 But seriously, if you’re struggling with a tricky corner, a weird nook, or a space that just doesn’t quite work—you’re not alone! All of us have that one spot in our home that feels, well… awkward.
For me, it’s the area at the top of my stairs. Not only is it a narrow walkway leading to all the upstairs bedrooms, but it also has a soffit covering a support beam—making it extra fun to work with (read: quite frustrating!).
So, how did I tackle it? Strategic styling, of course! I found a pair of slim cabinets on Amazon that were the perfect size—not only do they look beautiful, but they also add much-needed storage (because who doesn’t need more of that?). To bring life to the space, I added oversized artwork above the cabinets, which instantly made the area feel more intentional and cohesive.
Next, I layered in tall cylinder vases for a bit of drama and some lush greenery to freshen things up. Shagreen boxes? Yes, please! They’re gorgeous and functional, offering extra storage while looking effortlessly chic. For lighting, I went all-in: backlighting behind the cabinets for a moody, dramatic effect and a tall table lamp to warm up the whole space.
And because texture is everything, I topped it off with a few carefully chosen accents—a moss-filled black bowl, a large decorative sphere, and a stack of books for that collected, layered look. Oh, and let’s not forget the finishing touch—a warm, beautiful rug to ground the entire space and make it feel cozy.
So, if you’ve got an awkward space that’s driving you crazy, don’t stress—there’s always a way to make it work beautifully! It’s all about finding the right pieces, playing with scale, and layering in elements that bring both function and style.
