The fire is roaring, the kids are chasing after the dog, and Jack and I are cuddling on the couch, watching the madness, laughing and remarking on how these are the moments that make us feel most at home. Then just a few minutes later, the kids are snuggled in their beds and Jack starts making the rounds, checking that the doors are locked and turning off the lights… it’s quiet and still… and somehow that feels like home, too.
It’s the ebb and flow of life, isn’t it? It’s the highs, the lows, and everything in between that make life what it is and the walls around us are simply the backdrop to it all. It’s the first Friday of October and it feels like the calm before the storm… we are all chatting about what to dress up as for Halloween while secretly planning Christmas decor.
This weekend I can’t wait to spend some time with a book I ordered by the designer, Kelly Hoppen, who seems to have a shared affection for black and white interiors. I’ve pulled my zebra rug back out, called the painter to come paint a few things back to black and I’m looking forward to getting out a bit, but my biggest agenda for the weekend is making a Mexican Latte (or two) and spending as much time relaxing by the fire as possible! I wish you all a wonderful weekend! I hope it is full of love and laughter, maybe even a bit of madness and calm, and, if you can squeeze it in, a bit of time by the fire, too! xxV
